Redline Radio is a low powered FM radio station that serves the communities on Chicago's far north side. This includes (not exclusively) Uptown, Edgewater, Roger's Park and even Evanston. We have been on the air since December of 2001. The station is run by a collective of dues-paying volunteers. As we do not depend on revenue from advertising, we do not find the need to run advertising. Our station is 100% commercial free. There is no collective process for deciding what content goes on the air

So maybe you've noticed that Redline Radio is not on the air currently. Well, first off, I'm sorry. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we can no longer continue broadcasting from our current space. I guess you can lay the blame on American progress realized in the form of condominiums. It seems that any building in the city these days that is under-occupied or too advanced in age is a ripe target for "development". Soon the old walls of our building will be razed, only to have new walls of gentrification erected in their place. And can we(/you) afford to purchase one of these new units and continue with our work? Hell no. What troubles me the most about this latest development (pun intended) is that it's removing a community resource and putting in it's place something that will in no way serve the true residents of the neighborhood. Roger's Park is one of Chicago's most diverse neighborhoods, with over eighty languages spoken by it's sixty-thousands residents. That's amazing! But who can afford to pay the exorbitant asking prices on these new condominiums? I can guarantee you that it's not one of these marginalized ethnic groups.
So... like so many others in this neighborhood, we are being driven out.
Stay tuned, because we WILL return!

RLR is now broadcasting 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!
The recent addition of a computer to our studio setup allows us to create an archive of audio files to broadcast all day! Currently the archive only has about 1,000 files in it, out of a potential 20,000. Changes are also being made to formats. Instead of the randomness you hear now, we will be broadcasting two hour blocks of genre specific music. If you have any recommendations for us, send us an email (see email info at bottom of page).
We are also seeking PSAs from local organizations. You may submit either MP3s via email (<4MB), or script copy for one of our DJs to narrate. We are also interested in gathering spots for upcoming events held by local organizations. (we will not plug concerts, unless they are benefit shows for an organization. we also will not run advertising for commercial businesses)
Additionally, if you can't make it to our studio, but would like to have your own show and can record it from home, we will gladly accept submissions. (email us first. Currently we have a 4MB cap on file sizes in email, so DO NOT SEND ANY LARGE FILES TO OUR EMAIL ACCOUNT. We won't get them. Instead, we use dropload.)
There have also been many significant changes to our schedule! Please
stay tuned, as we will be updating the schedule in the coming weeks.
Keep listening!
